Gustav Macoun was one of the painters whose desire to paint manifested itself from early childhood. After he completed his basic education, he studied with Alois Kalvoda and Antonín Slavíček. This painting of the early evening in countryside belongs to the turning point after graduation from these courses and his admission to the Academy of Fine Arts to V. Bukovac. He refered to Antonín Slavíček all his life and painted the landscape with a touch of impressionism.
