This entirely unique painting without figurative staffage is by the excellent Czech painter Joža Uprka. He is primarily known as a painter of folklore themes and portraits of people in folk costumes. At the turn of the 19th to 20th centuries, he accented the ethnography of a region with which he was intimately familiar – Moravian Slovakia. The view through blooming peach trees to a golden field and hamlet with a small church is a work celebrating springtime and exuding peace and harmony. From his work with color and Impressionist technique one can recognize the lessons he learned in Paris in 1892 and 1893.
