"Winter Landscape" is an intimate sketch, a genuine impression capturing a moment of seen reality. As Ullmann’s brushwork gradually relaxed, his technique transformed to larger and smaller spots; he blended paint into the support until dry, but he also used impasto, combined oil and tempera paints, and achieved true technical mastery. In around 1910 he permanently devoted himself to pure Impressionism with strong accents of yellow, red, white, blue and other unbroken, pure colors, which allowed him to attain convincing results in summer and winter motifs.
