The study of Gerlach's Love presents the theme of a recumbent girl over whom a flying angel bends under a flower arc on an original engraving by Martin Gerlach from 1900 and tries to kiss the girl. The leading Czech painter and graphic artist Max Švabinský studied under M. Pirner at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, where he later worked as a professor and led a graphic special classes. His work is based on symbolism and impressionism, which also marks his sensory relationship to nature and the female figure. He was a perfect draftsman and engraver of extraordinary technical skill with great attention to detail. During his artistic career in 1897–1961, his graphics went through many creative periods. He is also known as the creator of the portrait gallery of the "Czech Slavín", which includes classics of Czech literature, visual artists, scientists, but also politicians.
