The Four Books of Architecture by Andrea Palladio, published during Palladio's lifetime (1508–1580). In it, the author presents his ideal plans of constructed buildings and designs with a number of detailed plans and drawings. The structure builds on Vitruvio's treatise on architecture. The First Book is devoted to the basics of architecture: building materials, proportions, architectural details and ways to connect them. The Second Book describes individual projects and the use of individual rules contained in the First Book. It also addresses iconography. The Third Book is concerned with public structures, such as streets, bridges and squares. The Fourth Book looks at temples and provides several examples of the reconstruction of antique Roman structures.
