Luxurious full-leather period binding, gilding on the spine, gilt inner and outer line border and edges. Pallas's expedition to the Ural Mountains, western Siberia and the Caspian Sea in 1768–1774 gathered a wealth of new information and valuable material. The picture atlas based on this research presents over a hundred one-page and two-page copper engraving maps and tables. All is printed on good quality, strong paper. The pictures depict flora, fauna, costumes, habits, cultural objects, objects of utility value and more. The book is dominated by a monumental, 57x112 cm folding map of the Russian Empire at the start of the book. This unusually well-preserved copy of this exquisite showcase atlas of Russia would be a jewel in the library of even the most sophisticated collector.
