Joseph Ulrich Danhauser was one of the first furniture makers to successfully present complete furniture collections to the general public. Furniture from his workshop could be ordered directly from a catalog, much like today. This sofa, like Danhauser’s other designs, combines functionality, practicality, and relatively simple aesthetics, yet retains Empire-style grandeur in the form of carved, polychromed, and gilded stylized birds and legs shaped like a lion’s head and paw. Fully restored.
