Anderle’s graphic work combines a refined artistic style with a deep knowledge of the works of the old masters. Drawing on Dürer’s legacy, he reinterprets the theme of the irony of Nemesis and Fortuna—that is, just retribution and wealth/fortune. As if both artists were looking beneath the surface, Dürer depicts her as a potbellied, elderly lady with a goblet and a bridle, balancing above the landscape. Jiří Anderle looks even deeper and constructs her body from chaos, turbulence, and physicality, suggesting that these are aspects of treacherous and insatiable goddesses.
