Emmanuel Fries (1778 - 1852) COMBAT ON HORSES

Emmanuel Fries mostly painted stylized still lifes - flowers and fruits. He perfected painting in Paris for several years and excelled in print design, first designing handkerchief borders, later coming up with larger designs. He often supplemented landscape paintings with staffage on horses, sometimes just as on the canvas presented during a duel.
