Acrylic on velvet, 100 x 80 cm Signed on reverse: Hábl Blossom dates to a period when the artist was experimenting with a sacred yet sorrowful material, with black velvet, symbolically expressing nothingness and becoming infinite. Here the subject is the coherent object of the Blossom, dissolving in the abstract painting and submerging into the very nature of the material. Patrik Hábl is one of the most striking faces in contemporary Czech art who works with both the painting and its installation in space (Dox Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing International Art Biennale, exhibition in Kyoto, Japan, 2015). He has created a number of works for display in important historical buildings: Hábl is currently working with architect Stanislav Fiala on the Drn building and Swéerts-Sporck Palace in Prague’s New Town (Building of the Year award, Grand Prix, nominated for the Mies van der Rohe Award). The artist, who has received the Waldes Award and Europol Award, teaches at the Academy of Art, Architecture and Design in Prague. The painting has been shown at solo exhibitions: 2013 Object, Subject, Galerie Magna, Ostrava; 2013 Colour/Painting, Kalt Gallery, Munich, Germany; 2012 Rhythms, Czech Centre in Milan, Italy; 2011 Mira intenzity, Galerie Klatovy/Klenová.
