Luděk Marold (1865 - 1898) ANGEL

In artists’ infinite quest to define and describe an angel, Luděk Marold focused his attention on the angel, excellently executing the foundations for his own beliefs. He portrays the angel as a woman filled with tenderness and sensitivity surrounded by children, whom she protects and covers with her white wings. She nestles the children on her chest, gathering them around her like a caring mother. Marold rids the angel of her dehumanized godliness and instead endows her with exceedingly human character. The artist gave a lot of time and thought to this theme, later developing it into a more colorful version currently in the collections of the Gallery of Fine Arts in Ostrava.
