The sculpture Faun’s Rest by Stefan Milkov is a large bronze work from 2003, which is also located in the courtyard of the Mikulov Castle. The sculpture was created as part of the 10th anniversary Mikulov Art Symposium. Stefan Milkov is now considered a classic of Czech sculpture, having entered the art scene in the second half of the 1980s.  A major turning point for the artist came in 1986, when his distinctive artistic style emerged, centered thematically on legendary and mythical figures and scenes (Angel, Golem, Atlas, Phoenix, etc.). The form of the sculptures draws on his study of classical tradition, as well as the era of archaic sculpture and the influence of non-European civilizations, from which their hieratic, static figurativeness stems. The sculptures are often simplified, stylized into basic forms, sometimes oscillating between organic and geometric morphology.
