signed: Aleš Vašíček 2005
| 3 125 €
After graduating from the Secondary Vocational School of Glassmaking in Železný Brod, the artist continued his studies under Prof. Libenský at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, from which he graduated in 1972. Together with his contemporaries Oldřich Plíva, Yan Zoritchak, Pavel Trnka, and Marian Karel, he was a leading figure in the new style of cut glass, known as “prismatic sculpture.” The artists sought to utilize the optical qualities of cut glass, most often crystal. In the late 1980s, Vašíček turned to the technique of fused glass sculpture, which earned him the prestigious Grand Prix award in Kanazawa, Japan, in 1991. His objects are based on simple geometric shapes; the circle and square are characteristic of his work. The artist makes use of the translucency of the glass and the color nuances inherent in the glass material. The sculpture on offer, nearly a meter tall, is made of yellow-green glass cast in a mold, with a matte finish on the surface.
