Adolf Born (1930 – 2016) became known to Czech audiences primarily as the creator of the evening dramas Mach and Šebestová or Žofka and her adventures. He said of his illustrations: “I like it when the illustration lives a parallel life alongside the text. When the adventures of the funny dog are being told, I also develop the story of the cat sitting behind the fence. Children enjoy it, they can figure out both stories." Adolf Born breaks down the boundaries between "big" and "small" art and draws inspiration for each illustration from the bottomless hat of imagination and fantasy.
