This collection of unbound musical compositions offers a rare historical glimpse into Lhoták’s life; in the 1930s, he was considering a career as a composer. Lhoták played the piano from childhood; he was taught composition by Miroslav Ponc, and the result was about 30 short polyphonic pieces, two quartets, and one symphony titled Spring Greeting. It was written for a large orchestra and inspired by a poem by Heinrich Heine. Kamil Lhoták found his true calling in painting, which became his lifelong passion, though he loved classical music throughout his life. The collection includes Opus 2–6; the pages are worn, with some torn or with torn edges. It contains the composer’s corrections, annotations, and drafts.
