TWO ROCOCO FANS

These two richly decorated fans likely originate from the Italian city of Naples, a fact confirmed by the motif depicting the erupting Mount Vesuvius. The handles are crafted from carved and engraved ivory. The color palette, together with the scenic motif of a court scene featuring exotic costumes and camels, shows inspiration from Chinese-style French Rococo painting. One of the fans is dated: August 1779. Very good state of preservation.
