Jan Zrzavý can undoubtedly be classified as a second-generation Symbolist; his works offer an intense insight into inner experiences and a focus on the search for spiritual truth. Jan Zrzavý was always unique, entirely distinct; after his avant-garde beginnings, he can most closely be classified among artists who favored neoclassicism, New Objectivity, or magical realism. His portraits reveal a gentle, meditative lyricism. The drawing was originally owned by Father František Srubek from Chelčice.
