Zdeněk Kratochvíl (1883 - 1961) EDUARD VOJAN

Zdeněk Kratochvíl was an outstanding and courageous cartoonist of the interwar period, and in the prewar years he exhibited at Mánes in a show of cartoons opposing Nazism. On the reverse side of the drawing, which comments on the death of an actor and member of the National Theater, is the artist’s own text: “Rural Thalia at Vojan’s funeral. Actors, born and trained. He was the last of those I nurtured. Now I’m retiring, and let the crows bring in the new actors.”
