Pravoslav Kotík (1889 - 1970) STILL LIFE WITH PEARS AND APPLES

A respected artist who is currently popular among collectors, he studied under Prof. K. V. Mašek, E. Dítě, and J. Schikaneder at UMPRUM in Prague. He was a member of the Mánes Union of Fine Arts, the Ho Ho Ko Ko Social Group (along with K. Holan, M. Holý, and K. Kotrba), and also exhibited with the Umělecká beseda. Initially, his work was influenced by Fauvism and Expressionism. In the 1920s, he turned to geometric Cubism, which was evident mainly in the reduction and simplification of the pictorial structure; later, he was also inspired by Neoclassicism.
