Wooden helmet mask of the lipiko type (pl. mapiko), naturalistically depicting a male head, with applied hair and geometric motifs on the forehead. Masks of this type were used in Makonde ceremonial performances, including those associated with initiation rites. East Africa, probably Mozambique, Makonde. Local defects.
