Jan Merta studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (AVU), has worked as a restorer, and is a freelance artist. His early work dates from a period when his artistic practice was taking on its current direction. He seeks individuality and a personal voice, revealing a world of symbols through which perceived reality is interpreted without literalism.
