Jan Zrzavý had a significant impact on the development of our modern culture through his authentic creative imagination, in which he linked the Czech tradition of spiritual lyricism with European modernism. Very early on, he found his own mode of expression, one that reflects reality indirectly through carefully considered signs and symbols. He was particularly captivated by lyrical, enclosed, dreamlike, and soft forms. His artistic vision was shaped by frequent travels and stays abroad, especially in Italy and France.
