A painting based on Schwind's work, which depicts a scene of Rudolph of Habsburg (1218 – 1291), King of Germany. It is said that Rudolf, still as a count of Swabia, met a priest who carried the sacrament at mass. Rudolph, out of respect for the Host, dismounted to let the priest ride. In this picture, the scene takes place in the forest at night; The earl's servant leads the way with a candle in a lantern, barefoot and using a tree for support, having found support in a fast-flowing stream. The count himself is on one knee and the priest is about to mount.
