Late gothic woodcut depicts Mary wrapped in a pleated cloak with Jesus' body resting on her right knee. The dramatic effect is achieved by the diversion of both characters to different sides, when the impoverished body of Jesus Christ points in one direction and the grieving Mary, with a face full of pain, deviates in the opposite direction.
