From the expert opinion of PhDr. Naděžda Blažíčková-Horová: "This view of Kořenský Pond near Lažany in South Bohemia is an indisputably fine and highly accomplished work by Karel Liebscher, a landscape painter and illustrator and the older brother of Adolf Liebscher, the creator of historical, allegorical, and genre paintings and illustrations. After his initial studies in engineering, Karel Liebscher decided to pursue illustration and painting; in 1883, he left for Vienna to study at the private school of Prof. Eduard P. Lichtenfels. In 1885, he returned to Prague and immediately attracted attention with a collection of 128 oil paintings and drawings at the Krasoumná jednota exhibition. As early as 1887, he organized a second hastily arranged comprehensive exhibition at the Ruch Gallery and simultaneously opened his own, soon-to-be-sought-after, landscape painting school. Liebscher’s work also holds documentary significance and historical value for the present day. The presented work, Kořenský Pond near Lažany, located near a small village in the Strakonice district of South Bohemia, is a picturesque panoramic landscape with sculptural terrain and light contrasts, focused on the meticulous rendering of every detail, modeled with light colors and soft tones, and executed with brilliant ease."
