From the expert review by PhDr. Naděžda Blažíčková-Horová: "Antonín Liehm was one of Max Haushofer’s oldest students; he entered his studio already an accomplished painter after years spent studying under Antonín Mánes. For his early works, he most often found inspiration in the Alps, around Chiemsee and Königsee; later, he sought out significant locations in Bohemia. He taught and painted himself according to the compositional rules of the time and the principles of Romantic landscape painting. His painting Procession at the Wayside Shrine, with its balanced, joyful mood and the colorful freshness of a summer day, recalls Mánes’s artistic approach. During Liehm’s short life, his landscape paintings were popular and in demand for their realistic fidelity and poetic quality; however, after his sudden death, he was forgotten. Nevertheless, Liehm’s style of landscape painting remains an integral part of 19th-century Czech landscape painting."
