Jan Kaláb is a Czech visual artist whose work draws on graffiti and street art. He is one of the first graffiti artists in the Czech Republic to have created works in public spaces around the world. To date, he has held several exhibitions abroad (London, Paris, San Francisco, Miami). The artist’s work is characterized by a constant exploration of new techniques and structures. Regarding the thematic area of intersecting layers, he notes: “In the world of geometry, there are parallel layers. How do the layers interpenetrate each other? Let’s say that planes are defined by rectangles; if a point appears on a plane and begins to grow, it becomes a circular hole falling into the lower layer, and from this layer it multiplies and gives birth to new ones, and so on. It is an infinite number of regenerations in constant motion. A fundamental interplay between the square and the circle defining opposing elements—positive and negative space. My interpretation of pure geometric abstraction. This series can be easily applied to buildings and spaces, as its rectangular forms glide perfectly across the surface, creating an interesting illusion." The work is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from the artist.
