Josef Jíra (1929 - 2005) ON THE SHORE OF BALTIC SEA

Jíra created a large number of works on the Baltic coast; he would travel from there out into the world, and each time he would sketch something that caught his eye in his sketchbook. He repeatedly painted black-and-yellow boats on the seashore, where he could apply his sense of color and use gestures to evoke the atmosphere of churning waves and a sky before a storm, for example on the Polish coast in Krinica Morska.
