Ludvík Vacátko was born in Simmering near Vienna, spent part of his life in an officer's coat and in the meantime studied at the Academy of Fine Arts. Horses, their anatomy and role in human life and history became the central theme of his life and work. In a typical example of a masterful depiction of a horse, we see a mythological legacy of the bond between man and horse, in both cases depicted in a very related way with an emphasis on muscles and curves. Although the role of the horse began to slowly and inevitably disappear in people's lives, especially in the cities, Ludvík Vacátko still rode a horse around the city, even though his "manners of Austrian officers" were often criticized.
