Luigi Riccardi was an Italian painter who created oil paintings of landscapes and watercolors. He trained with Giuseppe Bisi and was influenced by Massimo d'Azeglio. He painted sea scenes and landscapes by the coast. In 1865, he began teaching at Brera - his works are mostly found in Milan, including the Galleria d'Arte Moderna and the Poldi-Pezzoli Museum. Eugenio Gignous was one of his students. Luigi Riccardi showed an extraordinary sense of detail and the clarity of seawater in the sunlight. The presented image veristically imitates the moment when the sun shines through heavy clouds for a moment. The painting also includes an imaginary timeline that divides it between a ship struggling with the water element in the right plan and a ship illuminated by the sun, which already has a pier within reach.
