This miniature and thematically somewhat unusual still life capturing the lively activity around a bird's nest is an exemplary specimen of cabinet painting from the first third of the 18th century. Dr. Seifertová believes the painting was made in Central Europe, perhaps Prague, and ascribes it to the monogramist P.F.W.D. An analogous subject is found in two volumes in the Picture Gallery of the Royal Canonry of Premonstratensians at Strahov, which includes a robin with a bird's nest (inv. no. O 798 and O 799). Assessment: PhDr. Hana Seifertová. Oil on wood, unsigned.
