Michael Haubtmann was a German landscape painter, a student of Max Haushofer. He studied law, but in 1869 he gave up the profession and moved to Munich. He made a living as a landscape artist. His works can be seen mainly in Central Europe, especially in Germany and Austria. He undertook many study trips, for example to Switzerland, Italy, Egypt, Greece and Norway. The Italian landscape bears the manuscript of a Haushofer composition with a romanticizing theme of a seaside locality.
