Starting in as early as the 1970s, Václav Machač became a leading exponent of Czech and worldwide figurative art in glass. He studied under Professor Stanislav Libenský (1965-1971) at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. His art is based in classic sculpted forms, using the mould-blown technique followed by polychrome applications to achieve excellent results in the realm of Expressive Realism. This also applies for his dramatic studies and fine art drawings. He chooses characteristic themes in which he expresses an interest in manifesting human and brute force, resilience and resolution, often in portraits of athletes, cyclists and skiers. His horse heads and portraits of dogs are exceptional. Through poignant naturalism of form, the sculptor seems to intentionally grapple with several Mannerist aesthetics in several glassmaking techniques. A teacher at the Secondary Glass School in Nový Bor, Václav Machač has participated in several prominent glass exhibitions in the Czech Republic and abroad, imparting a characteristic element of the reality of life to the international sculpture scene, where his sculptor's interpretation of glass art is highly acclaimed.
