Josef Matěj Navrátil was one of the excellent landscape painters, but he became famous mainly for his figural work. In the work Two actresses, she depicts Laura Schubert in a Rococo light composition. The lightness of his brush puts him on the verge of impressionism. His fame grew and in 1850 he became chairman of the Union of Fine Artists. Unfortunately, he later became paralyzed as a result of his illness and, despite all his talent, had to leave painting. His work inspired the work of photographer Josef Sudek.
