Vincenc Vingler (1911 - 1981) ELEPHANT CALF

Vincenc Vingler, a sculptor, ceramist and designer who represented Czechoslovakia at international exhibitions many times and became famous for his exterior sculptures for the Prague Zoo, has maintained a partial distance from the prevailing artistic trends throughout his life. The departure from traditional figurative sculpture perfectly describes the register of his work, which is recognizable by its minimalism, through which he has reached the very threshold of abstract expression. Interested in the psychology of animals, their movements and characteristic gestures, he excelled in his sense of material and delicate workmanship, which allowed him to express the very soul of the animal, as evidenced by the playfulness of the offered chamber sculpture Elephant.
