The French post-impressionist Gustave Loiseau became known mostly as a landscape painter. With light touches of the brush, he painted fleeting light situations in the landscape and also depicted an urban landscape with busy swirling streets. Rue de Clignancourt is just a few steps from Rue de Ravigan, where the painter lived. He painted an environment he knew intimately and chose a holiday for painting, when flags in the color of the French tricolor fluttered in the windows. Rue de Clignancourt with a carousel is motifically repeated on several of its canvases. The authenticity of the work was confirmed by the leading French expert Didier Imbert and according to his statement it will be included in the author's monograph now being prepared. Larger elaboration of the theme is in collection of Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza.
