Claude Galle (1759 - 1815) PAIRED EMPIRE ETAGERES

Monumental and extraordinarily elaborate Empire etageres depicting mythological scenes and a female and male couple holding a gray wavy carved marble bowl were part of Rothschild's collections in England. It is a work from the workshops of Claude Galle, who in pre-revolutionary France was commissioned to furnish the chateau of Versailles and later, during Napoleon's reign, participated in the decoration of the chateau Fontainebleau in the Empire style.
