Antonín Karel Balzer (1771 - 1807) MEETING ON THE ROAD

In his youth, Antonín Karel Balzer worked in the family workshop of his father Jan Jiří Balzer, where he drew master drawings for engravings. Then he studied graphics and in the Czech Republic he contributed to the expansion of a new technique - aquatints. Antonín Balzer's graphics and drawings show typical features of pre-romantic landscaping, in which the foreground is emphasized and the more distant parts have a shallow space of classicist painting. The trees have a decorative function and the foliage serves as a kind of curtain.
