Unknown Flemish master ADORATION OF SHEPHERDS

The presented painting Adoration of the Shepherds is based on the composition of the same name by Peter Paul Rubens with minor changes. The manuscript of this paraphrase has sharper contours, more elaborate details, and a complete change in the composition of the background landscape, which Rubens left only a hint of, while his follower worked out a bright daytime landscape with precisely leafed trees. The overall tone lacks Rubens' lightness, but the individual elements are much clearer and reveal a strong need to convey the story as clearly as possible.
