PERSIAN SERAB CARPET

Wool pile on a cotton foundation, symmetrically knotted, with a repeating pattern of large hooked boteh motifs on an indigo field. The wider cream-coloured main border features a geometric pattern and is flanked by narrower secondary borders. Irregularities and signs of wear are consistent with age and hand manufacture. Northwestern Iran, Serab region (Heriz region / Iranian Azerbaijan).
