Algal limestone, Slivenec marble. Female figure: 104 cm; pool: 49 x 60 x 175 cm. "Vital Spring" was originally intended for one of the water elements at the rest area at Bertramka. It comprises a small pool and plinth of Slivenec marble with a water fountain and a sculpture of a crouched young lady in algal limestone. Jan Kodet is from the family of Czech painter and sculptor Emanuel Kodet. He studied at the School of Applied Arts in 1928–1931 under Professor Karel Dvořák, and in 1931–1935 he studied under Professor Otakar Španiel at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. He was a member of the Mánes Union of Fine Artists (1933–1949). He visited France (1936), Denmark, Norway and Sweden (1946), the Netherlands (1947) and Hungary (1956). His son, painter Kristian Kodet, is continuing the family's artistic tradition.
