Kotík studied at UMPRUM and AVU in Prague, and in the course of the 1920s he became a member of important artistic societies; Association of visual artists Mánes and Art Talk. Here he met the artists K. Holán, M. Holý and K. Kotrba, with whom he founded the HoHoKoKo Social Group in 1924, which focused on realistic subjects and social themes. Kotík's work oscillates from expressionism and fauvism to neoclassical works. The composition is applied by impulsive layering of color, and the key building blocks are gesture, movement and sharp contrast.
