The Portrait of a pointing dog represents a genre painting with a hunting theme, to which Louis Grünler has repeatedly returned. Although we do not know much about his life, he left behind precisely executed paintings of pets of prominent owners, such as trained dogs, English or Arabian thoroughbreds. The hound turns to its owner over a partridge lying in the grass and in the background we can see the Karlova Koruna chateau in Chlumec nad Cidlinou, one of Jan Blažej Santini's last projects.
