One of the most important representatives of the so-called "Generation of the National Theater", Mikoláš Aleš, a classic of Czech art of the 19th century, was recognized during his life mainly as a draftsman and decorator, and his oil painting was not appreciated until the 20th century. He is the author of large series: Homeland, Paintings from Czech History and Legends, Pagan Gods, Paintings from Russian Myths and History, Paintings from Polish History, Paintings from South Slavic Myths and History, etc. The illustrations belong to the book On Indian Graves by Josef Václav Sládek, where we can find it on the title page of the poetry collection.
