Czech sculptor Alena Matějka studied at the Academy of Art, Architecture and Design in Prague under Professor Vladimír Kopecký and at Glasgow School of Art. Alena Matějka's oeuvre is diverse. For small and large installations she uses glass, marble, stone, and has combined glass with taxidermied animals or ice. She gets inspiration from myths, old stories and antique ornaments, connecting them with her dreams. Her works are represented in leading Czech and international institutions and collections, and are shown at solo and group exhibitions in the Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, Denmark, Belgium, Canada, Italy, Norway, Japan, the Netherlands, Slovakia and the United States. She has received national and international awards for her work.
