This carved imperial eagle dates from the period when Napoleon's brother-in-law, Joachim Murat, became King of Naples and Sicily. Murat was famed for his enjoyment of ostentatious celebrations and costly decorative attire. The eagle was intended for celebrations, as a decoration for holding back textile drapes. Gilded wood, bronze.
