The landscape painting on offer dates to the 1850s, when Navrátil was at the peak of his creative powers. This typically small, intimate oil painting combines the drama of a mountain stream with the ideal of soft sunlight and a safely hidden shepherd with his sheep. According to PhDr. Naděžda Blažíčková-Horová, this is one of the best examples of the artist's distinctive, masterful and enchanting paintings. Oil on paper, signed on bottom right "Jos. Navrátil".
